I'll Be Your Strawberry

So I read this theory the other day about how Lupin was replaced by a Polyjuiced Wormtail between OOTP and HBP. This theory made a few relevant points but overall, I think the real question is, what would this accomplish? Not really anything relevant, except that, well, Lupin is not Lupin. Honestly, Lupin really isn't crucial enough a character to make this a burning question (as opposed to a Ron not being Ron situation). This lack of relevance is the problem with many theories. The Snape-is-a-Vampire theory. So what if he were a vampire? What would that mean? That...he's going to bite Harry? That...he'll pick the garlic out of his food at dinner? Take a different theory, say, was X at Godric's Hollow the night the Potters were killed? This is relevant because if X was there, X may know some hithero unknown important detail. This is the difference. So, when it comes down to the question of when a theory is total Hogwarts hogwash or not, the question is, what difference would this make? So, just keep that in mind whilst you spin your Harry Potter webs.

While we're on this topic, here's another thing: Dumbledore. He is dead. Dead as a doornail. First, his portrait is in his office. Second, everyone knew he was going to die at some point because this is just what happens to wise old wizards. Unfortunately, Dumbledore was not an Istar so he can't come back. Third, I think it would be mean trick for JK Rowling to pull, after all the emotional upheaval at the end of HBP and I don't think she'd do that. There was so much Dumbledore closure at the end he doesn't need to come back (this is one reason why it would be nice to see Mr. Black again...and to get more Mr. Oldman in the movies). That reminds me of a really funny part in POA about Humphrey Boggart. Hahahahaha.

Anyway, so in conclusion: Most theories are pointless. Dumbledore is dead. And, finally, while the debate is interesting, it's kind of pointless to debate the What-are-Snape's-Loyalties? issue because JK Rowling has made his character so inscrutable. He could go either way or a different way altogether and it wouldn't be inconsistent. Oh, and as for those Snape-died-not-Dumbledore theories, whatever.

So anyway, what this all means is, what are people going to talk about after Book 7 is out? Are people going to debate for the next ten years about how many kids Harry and Hermione had afterwards? Why Ginny had to die a painful death at the hands of an irate Prof. Sprout? The true meaning of the words "Never tickle a sleeping dragon"? Maybe it will all die down except for the fanatics until 100 years from now when Peter Jackson emerges from carbon freezing and remakes all 7 movies.

And just for the record, while I don't buy the Polyjuiced Peter theory, I am convinced there is a character that is not who they seem (possibly for the whole series). Either polyjuiced, a metamorphmagus, an animagus or something else remains to be seen but I'm sure of it. Maybe it's even R.A.B. Wouldn't that be intriguing? And relevant. I am so wize.

The Whomping Willow

I just finished watching Prisoner of Azkaban (which I haven't watched in AGES but I think may be in my top favorite movies) and I had a thought towards the end. As we all know, JK Rowling has said that that movie has foreshadowings/clues/etc. in it about future books, and occasionally I try to figure out one of them. Besides the prominent crow population, I haven't found anything. BUT tonight I had a little idea. So, it was at the part when the Lupinwolf tries to attack the trio and Snape is blocking but is knocked aside. A lot of people read that as Snape will save Harry! but I just don't think Snape is that good. Maybe he will, but anyway that's besides the point. What I was thinking is maybe Lupin will kill Snape and here is why that would be cool: James and Sirius were the main Snape tormentors and Snape has outlasted both of them. Wouldn't it be cool if Lupin, the "nice" Marauder, was the one who finished Snape off in the end? It would be so ironic. Of course unless Snape turns out to really be a traitor, I don't know why Lupin would kill him. But anyway, it was a thought. On a related note, I hope Lupin doesn't die (unless the alternative is a Tonks marriage) but if he does I hope both Peter and Snape die as well. It just wouldn't be fair if either of them (Snape or Peter) outlasted the last true Marauder. It also wouldn't be fair if ALL the Marauders were dead. Anyway.

In other news, everyone is out of town now so it's kind of boring around here. And I don't want to go to class tomorrow. Though there are only two weeks of class left so it can't be that bad right? Except I have an oral in French on Tuesday and that will be potentially bad. But hopefully good. We'll see.

In other news...I guess that's all the news really. Oh, the good news is that I got chocolate brownie ice cream yesterday and it's super tasty. I've already eaten too much of it. And I started Return of the King today which is exciting. I think I may read all the Harry Potters again when I finish it. Anyway, I think I want some more ice cream now.

Ruby Rap

Well apparently no one cared about my birthday blog, but that's okay. Sort of. Anyway, I'm listening to Fifth Element at the moment, because I was working on my French homework. But now I'm done so I need to study for my test and stuff. But all I really want to do is eat some more and watch the next episode of Ivanhoe. I forgot how dirty medieval movie people are (except in Timeline, which doesn't have the attempt at accuracy to count).

So, today I bailed on work early because I just couldn't take it. But I stayed for three hours which was pretty impressive since I wanted to leave before I ever got there. I ate some Chunky soup about an hour ago and even though it is supposedly "soup that eats like a meal" I feel like I've just had soup. I think one of the funniest Seinfeld episodes is the one where Jerry gets an Armani suit from Kenny and agrees to take him out to dinner for it. So he takes him out but Kenny only gets the soup and says it doesn't count because it's just soup. It's so funny.

What else was I going to say about soup, I can't remember. Oh yeah, there are these Burger King commercials all about their new "man burger". Well, I'm here to tell you that that man burger doesn't daunt me and I'm going to eat one on Thursday. Dangit, I can eat two six dollar burgers and fries from Carls' Jr--I can eat their fracking man burgers too. I'M HUNGRY TOO. I DON'T EAT "CHICK FOOD."* Quite a few months ago I was declared to be the "bottomless pit" of the family and I aim at upholding my title as long as my metabolism allows me to. Speaking of which, I need to start running again so I can maintain said metabolism. I also need to rustle up some more grub.

*...except when I do...but I eat it in mass quantities, does that count?

Thoughts on 22

So, I think "Magic Works" may just be my favorite song, seeing as how I still play it about five times a day, and it's been out for over six months now. So, only time will tell but that's what preliminary reports are suggesting.

Well, I'm not 22 anymore and it's sad. I don't feel any older, but gosh I am. Next year I'm definitely going to go down a year instead of up. I will respond the effects of Age Gravity, a little studied science.

In celebration of this event I watched two bad movies, but only one of them was good. The first was The Producers, which had a promising premise. On the positive side, Matthew Broderick was very funny, and Will Ferrel was crazy and so funny also. Everything else was either A) Pointless/Unnecessary or B) Dumb or C) Both. Plus, the songs weren't very good. Basically, even if you are inexplicably drawn to glitzy Broadway plays, it's best to be inexplicably drawn to a different one.

Speaking of inexplicable drawings, the second movie was Van Helsing because, dang it, I love that movie. I mean, nothing makes sense! Nothinnnnnng! And yet there is such great eye candy and quotable lines like "Too bad. So sad." Classic! And, dang it, I love that movie but there's really no good reason why.

Let's see, in other news... I found a Goat Boy t-shirt on Hot Topic that was pretty funny. I remember that one episode where David Duchovny was Goat Boy's long-lost brother. I don't remember anything else, but I remember the idea of a goat/man hybrid was really funny.

Oh, in the coolest news item of the night I got this item. It's pretty much the coooolest thing ever because I mean, it's THE JAR. So far I have had the following suggestions for what to put in it: money, cookies, deadly nightshade or salt. I haven't made my decision yet. Ew, Kevin Spacey is on SNL. Anyway, it's a sweetbees jar. Over and out!

Well, I tried that other quiz but Snape will still not be denied. But luckily my all-important love match quiz turned out better (though Dumbledore was a little too close for comfort). And that mustache is coming off, I tell you.

Sir Joshua Reynolds loved to paint girls like you in white dresses with blue satin sashes. Reynolds and other portrait painters of his time also portrayed blue eyed, dark-haired girls, and golden-haired ones too, plus the occasional red-head. The following painters would have painted you; Sir Joshua Reynolds and Sir Thomas Lawrence.

D'oh!

I did this quiz three times, trying to get Lupin because I was sooo close, but I just keep getting more and more Snape-ish everytime. I guess it's just destiny. 100 points from Gryffindor!

You scored as Severus Snape. Well you're a tricky one aren't you? Nobody quite has you figured out and you'd probably prefer it stayed that way. That said you are a formidable force by anyone's reckoning, but there is certainly more to you than a frosty exterior and a bitter temper.

Well, this is was pretty cool. I scored really low on feminity and low on masculinity as well, so I don't know what that makes me. I also had an 'empathy' score of 0, which is pretty funny. But it's good to be a Respectful Visionary.

Fi Fie Fo Fum

I made a super cool binder today with pictures of my siblings' offspring. Unfortunately, one had to be left off, mainly because the printer ran out of color ink and because I don't have any recent pictures. But that's not my fault. So don't say it's my fault, you.

I started school yesterday. Math was going fine for a few minutes until it stopped making sense. I read the book out loud to my room tonight, and I guess it made sense since it didn't really involve any numbers. French is still very exciting. And by exciting I mean only a little irritating.

I scored a bunch of free stuff at work today, including a blue garbage can from Target, a couple of sweaters and a cool dress that doesn't fit me but looks cool anyway. It's pink and Asian-y.

So what is up with ANTM? How many times is Jade going to be in the bottom two and not get cut? I'm ready to protest and do something protest-y. Lost was pretty so-so last night until the last five minutes, but I'm still less intrigued of late. Why aren't there any good shows on? Battlestar won't be new until OCTOBER, Ninja Turtles is only on Saturday mornings (and the season ended three weeks ago). What am I supposed to do with the rest of my time? (Homework, you say? You are silly.)

So, in Harry Potter news, there's not much to report. I was rereading HBP a few weeks ago, and I would like to know the answer to this question: Why did Dumbledore pick that time to make Snape the DADA teacher? He knows the job is jinxed, he knows Snape has a Dark Art-sy past (though I don't think that's the reason why Snape never got it before then. I'm just saying), and blah blah blah. Was it because he couldn't find a new DADA teacher, only a new teacher for a filled position (Slughorn)? I figure it's all part of some master plan cooked up Dumbledore and possibly Snape, but I don't know. Think about it though: if Snape had remained in his position, Harry wouldn't have been in Potions, would have never have gotten that book and, among other things, Book 6 would have been called something else. Here's another question: why was Snape leaving his old school book lying in a cupboard? Did he just forget to move it? Hmm. It does seem reminiscient of another conveniently placed book, namely Riddle's diary. Well. Food for thought, dear readers. Good eats!

You Spin Me Right Round

You know what I haven't read in a long time? A good fan fic. Fan fics are just kind of a summer-y thing, I think. Bad writing is generally more acceptable and more entertaining in the summer. But maybe I think that just because I rediscovered fan fiction two summers ago and wound up reading it all night with some hagan daas. Anyway, ice cream is good but fan fics are more entertaining. And that, as Chuck Norris would say, is the rest of the story.

No matter how many times I see it I still like the Honey Nut Cheerios bistro commercials. But I never like those Prego commercials because they're so annoyingly dramatic.

So, let's see, what's new. Well, in Harry Potter news: Order of the Phoenix is set for July 13, 2007! Which is so totally soon. Also, Tonks still sucks. And so does Ginny. But not Harry.

I watched Spider-man 2 again last week. I forgot what a sweetbees movie it is. I think, in terms of human drama, it is the best out of all the superhero movies. But I still don't approve of the frequent de-masking scenes, and that melodrama on the subway train with unconscious Spider-man is still overkill. But it's still sweet.

I saw this What Not to Wear a few weeks ago and the lady actually refused to have her hair cut. That was really unfortunate because her hair was so long and scraggly. I heard that Christopher Robin is being kicked out of...Hundred Acre Woods? Well, anyway, I hear he's getting the boot and will be replaced by a girl. I don't know why because Christopher is perfectly respectable.

In conclusion, I'm still irritated with stupid Tonks. Stupid Tonks getting together with Lupin. Pffffft.

Ah, drumsticks...nectar of the gods

That was the best part of King's Quest 6. "Ah, life-giving water...nectar of the gods." Or something like that anyway. Maybe it was "Ah, water, the element that brings life." Speaking of which, I still haven't got my super cheap Mortal Kombat. That was a pretty sweet game. KQ was sweet too. I still want to beat 5, because I could never get past that stupid hole in the wall bug.

So I sp
ent a bit of the weekend with Tolkien and found out that he got the idea for his JRRT monogram from Rudyard Kipling. The style of some of his trees were inspired by Arthur Rackham and he liked Giotto and Van Dyck. Let's see, what else...he never drew figures because all his attempts were horrible. But I guess doing a little Bilbo on a barrel was okay. I love the trees in that one.

So, the Oscars are next week. I'm saving my last bag of popcorn for the occasion. Unfortunately the last drumstick will not last that long. Because I will eat it. The chocolate kind are so good. Why can't they sell a box of just chocolate instead of mixing them in with the variety pack? Is that too much to ask?

Well. In other news. I saw When a Stranger Calls last weekend, but the guy turned out to be Cicero from Gladiator. And Cicero is too good for me to fear so that was the end of that. I did a little research and found out he got those crazy scars when he was attacked outside a bar by some guy with a broken bottle or a knife or something.

Let's see, other news...I have tests this week, that's exciting but maybe. In other news I am now realizing that I never made dinner and it's almost 10. So maybe I should go make something...So, off I go.

Wheeeee!

Nightmare before Christmas
The story of Halloweentown with it's king Jack Skellington. Your a dreamer and are never really satisfied with what you have until after you make mistakes. You're always looking for something new and different and get bored easily.

quote:
Jack Skellington: Sally! I need your help most of all.
Sally: You certainly do, Jack. I've had the most horrible vision!
Jack Skellington: That's wonderful!
What Tim Burton movie are you?

This is the Night!

Well, despite the unfounded claims of "gritness" leveled against my bobblehead, I am blogging again. Let's see what I got in my drawers for today.

First off, there's not much to report today. I watched the Lion King tonight because it is Valentine's Day. I also ate Velveeta with hot dogs to make things a little extra festive. I also discovered some freaky new Harry Potter fanart that I'm not sure if I liked or not. Hmm. I also discovered that the Lion King is just as good as I remembered.

So, I was thinking the other day about possible remakes for The Scarlet Pimpernel, just because. I think Jason Isaacs would be a great Chauvelin. As for English actors who could possibly manage a funny/dumb/hero/genius combination (for Percy of course), I couldn't think of many people. Johnny Depp could pull off the duality just because he's good like that but otherwise he's totally unsuitable. I'd like to see Ewan McGregor try it. And that's as far as I got.

I still have those hershey kiss legs. Maybe one day I will build them a torso and possibly legs or something.

Woahhhhh I just had a dream flashback. It was some movie that totally went off The Icebergs up there, by Church. Except it looked different in my dream. Anyway, it was pretty cool looking.

Well, to end this on a high note, I will end with a quote: "We're actors! We're the opposite of people!"
"

Copley Copley Copley

John Singleton Copley is great. We've spent a lot of time together recently. That's his half-brother, Henry Pelham, on the right. Nice kid, had an ear problem and died in an accidental drowning years later. This was painted in late 1765, the third portrait of that year to include a squirrel. Of course, at the time squirrels were pets and were emblems that signified patience. But of course this no mere portrait; heck, it wasn't even commissioned. No, it done by and for Copley himself and sent off to England to impress Sir Joshua Reynolds (oops- Mr. Reynolds didn't know what that animal was). This is one of two profile portraits Copley did the entire time he lived in the colonies (until 1774). Yeah, we've been spending a lot of time together. (I love that pink satin, I really do.)

In other news, I have a three-headed Fluffy bobblehead that keeps me company. I also have a box of drumsticks that will keep me company later. I saw some good movies this weekend called Big Trouble in Little China and The 'Burbs. They're both crazy and funny at the same time. This weekend I also made a little set of legs from a hershey kiss wrapper. They stand up and everything. They're kind of like a Copley mascot, just like me.

Well, to round all this out, here's the requisite Harry Potter discussion. Current casting: how much longer do we have to wait for young Lupin and Sirius to be cast? Speaking of OOTP, will Grawp be included? Wouldn't it be lovely if that whole plotline were completely bypassed? Heck, they can just cut Hagrid out of the whole movie and I won't complain. Back to the discussion, I'm happy to hear the dementor attack is going to be in the movie because that part was pretty good. In book news, why why why why does Peter have that silver hand? It's got to be important because, you know, it's a silver hand. He's not going to kill Lupin with it, we know that much. But he has to do something with it. Maybe Voldemort will take it back or maybe Peter will donate it to charity.

Speaking of which, it's Valentine's Day this week, which is always exciting. It's going to be pretty exciting this year, featuring appearances by the chocolate drumsticks and The Lion King. As for now, Copley calls.

Thoughts of a Random Nature

Here's just a collection of a few random thoughts, many dealing with Harry Potter because, well, they do. First, here are just a few theories and such I have about book 7 (which WILL be called "Harry Potter and the Flame of Arnor"):

-Lupin will kill Fenrir Greyback. The real question is, will this kill Lupin in the process? *sigh* I'll only accept that if the alternative was marrying Tonks.

-The Inferi must be more important, but I don't know how. It seems like living wizards would be more useful to Voldemort because, well, they're wizards.

-Hogwarts must stay open because it's Hogwarts! I think Harry will have to go back there too, because of 1) the library, which he will need 2) adult wizardly advice (possibly from Dumbledore's painting) 3) it's Hogwarts! 4) JKR said there would be a new DADA teacher. Maybe this one will last?

-There's just so much to resolve this book will have to be 1,000 pages. I almost wrote "revolve" and that wouldn't have made any sense.

Let's see, what other random thoughts do I have. How about Lost? That show needs to have some kind of resolution soon, just in some small way. It just keeps building the mystery more and more, but at some point people have to start to figure it out. Otherwise it's just frustration 24/7. So, I hope somethings get resolved soon. Also, I don't think the "Others" Jack and co. encounted this last week are part of the same group that attacked Ana-Lucia's group. I think the other Others are more tribal. So, it sounds like the Island is divided up into territories. And the "Others" don't have access to any scissors.

For my final thoughts, I will just say I wish I had some chocolate drumsticks and it's almost spring!

Oh, one more HP thought. Snape is obviously very important. I think he's good, though still a jerk and a Harry hater, and I think he's going to help Harry find the horcruxes (possibly while using the H-BP nickname since only Harry and co. know about that name). But I also think he's going to die in the end, killed by either Voldemort or Order members who don't know he's good. (Plus, assuming Peter dies and if Lupin dies, I would hate for Snape to outlive all the Marauders.) Anyway, back to my original thought: I know he's important, but I think some people are overestimating his importance. He's important but I don't think he's going to kill Voldemort or anything. He's still just Snape. That's all. End of story. Good bye!

Thursday, January 12, 2006

In Which I Expound on Horcruxes

Well, I've been a'thinkin and I think I have a pretty sweetbees theory regarding Harry and the Horcruxes. There are, as I see it, two possibilities that will basically decide the end of the book: 1) Harry is Horcrux or 2) Harry is not a Horcrux. I think these are both probable--there is evidence for both.

In regards to #2, I am inclined to believe he is not a Horcrux because I think Voldemort would have made his 7 Horcruxes by this point in his career. He would have made them early, before a serious bid for power or the war, as security. Also, Voldemort went to Godric's Hollow to kill Harry, not to make him a Horcrux. Thus, if Harry IS a Horcrux...

...It was an accident. I don't know the method for creating Horcruxes, but possibly it could have been an accident when Voldemort killed Lily (since he wasn't originally planning on killing her) or perhaps when his killing curse rebounded off Harry. So the way I see it: either there are 7 Horcruxes, and Harry is a non-Horcrux or there are 8 and Harry is an accidental one.

So, if Harry IS a horcrux, here's what I think will happen: Harry will have to overcome his fear of dementors (And Lupin will have to stock up on chocolate). A dementor is the only thing, I think, that could extract the portion of Voldemort's soul from Harry without killing Harry in the process. Since the dementors are breeding now they must be in pretty ready supply, too. So, here are some remaining questions:

1) If he is a Horcrux, how will Harry figure this out? Dumbledore told him that Voldemort transferred some of his power to Harry, will this clue Harry in? Maybe the question is: how long will it take Hermione to figure it out?
2) Is Voldemort aware that Harry is a Horcrux? He knows they have a connection, and you would think someone would notice losing a bit of their soul. Still, you may not notice if it happened while you were being ripped from your body.
3) How will Ginny and Tonks die?

And of course there are all those other pesky questions: How will he find them? How will he destroy them? He destroyed the diary, yes, but if it's that simple then why did Dumbledore get a blackened hand? I mean, really, how will he find them? I'm very concerned for young Mr. Potter. Early word is that there's a target release date for July 7, 2007...7/7/07. Hahahah, look at all those magic numbers.

P.S.: Cho is still an evil Ministry infiltrator.
P.P.S.: How will Ginny and Tonks die?

Thoughts on One's Almost Profession

So, for various reasons (not really various, for one specific reason), I have been thinking about art and the creation of it lately. I've come to a few conclusions. I think learning to draw things as they are and as you see them (i.e.: realistically) is easier than learning to draw things 1) as you see them in your mind and 2) with your own style (however "realistic" that is). I mean, anyone can learn to draw a realistic portrait of a guy sitting in front of you. That's all well and good, but it's another thing entirely to draw a scene you see entirely in your head, and with your fingerprint on it no less. To quote Mr. Micawber, in short, I think developing your own style is more difficult than learning to draw from life.

That being said, I think you have to learn to draw from life, otherwise you won't know how to draw anything really well and make it look real. But once you know how to look at things and make them come out the end of your pencil, you can really go in any direction you like, and picking the direction is a whole different animal.

So, I'm not saying this to disparage myself or anyone else who obsesses over getting the right hair in the right place on someone's head, because that's fun. But for various reasons, I have to come to respect artists who can dream things up and put them down on paper and make them look awesome and original. And now I'm going to bang my head on the desk because I can't do that.

In other news, phlegm sucks and the aftertaste of cough drops sucks too. I got some lotion kleenexs today and they're pretty awesome. I also announced in my class today that my favorite artist NC Wyeth and the professor agreed that he is fantastic and underappreciated. Hurrah! One less person to convert. Of course, as a non-Western art professor I think he is probably naturally more open minded in his definition of "art." And, really, what is art anyway except what you think it is?

Oh, and just to be clear because I wasn't really: in this case I'm talking about drawing people and people sorts of things. This isn't an argument that abstract art takes more skill than realistic art.

The Semester of Slackitude

Really, hasn't it been long enough? Isn't the semester over now? I thought that's what Thanksgiving was: an end. Oops, well I guess I really should work on that paper then.

I saw GOF last weekend and it was pretty rockin'. I've heard many complaints about leaving out such and such, but I think POA established that leaving out things wasn't necessarily bad. I only disagree with how Barty Crouch Jr. was treated, but that's pretty minor. The Quidditch World Cup makes up for a lot. And Jason Isaacs. And Fire!Gary Oldman. And Harry of course!

The problem with Thanksgiving food is that afterwards no other food looks quite as good. The only thing that sounds as good is leftovers, which I don't have so I'm out of luck. I mean, what are raviolis compared to tasty turkey? Ramen is no match for green bean casserole. Actually, raviolis are pretty good...

Well, this is the first blog since the summer, and I hope it's not too anti-climactic. I guess my final words here are: The Corpse Bride was really good.

Ah-roooo!

I went to Chicago, something no one else has done. It's a pretty sweetbees place. I saw stuffed man-eating lions, a Caillebotte painting, fellow Harry Potter nerds and a lot of granola bars. I also had my picture taken with an amazingly accurate Snape and Dumbledore, which was sweetbees. I also missed seeing Harry and the Potters play at Borders, which made me as angry as a chizpurfle.

In other news, I saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, which was possibly the most fun I've had at the movies all year. The cast was great, I loved all the Buckets, the music was so Danny Elfman and Willy Wonka had a great coat. Visually, I think it was Tim Burton's lightest movie. It still had all his wackiness though--phew! The worst part was that I missed almost the entire (new) trailer for Corpse Bride.

I read Kidnapped and Treasure Island a few weeks ago. Both were good, but Treasure Island was definitely more exciting and entertaining. It almost makes me want to see Treasure Planet again since now I know what they changed. But I think seeing Captain Smollett as a female cat would be rather disappointing now.

I've grown a powerful hunger for lasagna.

Hullabaloo!

I received an angry gletter today, insisting that I show my blogging prowess to the whole world. So here I am. Bow to me. That movie is so sweetbees.

I caught a spider on Animal Crossing, something no one else has even dreamed of doing. I also caught about four eels, so I don't know quite why they're rEELy hard to catch.

In more exciting news, Hugh Jackman is starring in and producing a Wolverine movie. This means that it's actually going to be made, and I would suspect it would be made right after X3 is filmed, since he'd already be in character and whatnot. In the bad X-Men news, Halle Berry is back for #3, with an "expanded role." Maggie Grace (Shannon on Lost) is signed on to play Shadowcat. So, whatever...that will only work if Boone is there to give her a hard time. And of course Juggernaut is in the mix too, and I don't really know how I feel about that. It seems like there are a few too many cooks working on this stew. Let's check the roster, shall we? We have the full X-Men roster from #2 (including Nightcrawler and Jean Grey) with the addition of Beast and Shadowcat and an expanded Storm. On the bad side, we have Magneto and Mystique (I assume Mystique) and now Juggernaut also. I think I heard some other villain mentioned also... So... many cooks. Of course, X2 juggled a lot of characters very well so I will be optomistic.

Blah blah blah... anyway, Cho Chang is an evil Ministry imposter.

Rictusempra!

Once I heard this joke about Pokemon and it started like this: Why shouldn't you look at Pokemon?

I saw Revenge of the Sith. It was all about how Anakin left pregnant Padme at the Wal-Marts. Later he lost his legs to the Obi-Wan Express and the Emperor taught him to sing country music. It was pretty sweetbees.

I also saw this movie called Sky Captain, and I realized Gwyneth Paltrow sounds like a donkey without an English accent. I also realized again that Jude Law is extremely overrated, unless he's playing an unseen, mysterious author.

How come no one blogs anymore? It's the summer time and isn't summer about blogging? And where is all the quiz taking? Well, I am contributing to both here and I expect everyone to follow suit!

Chama Chama

Ah, life. It is rather good. First, in Harry Potter news: I am excited about it.

Summer movie season is about to get started with Ep. III opening. I have my ticket and that alone is pretty sweet. I'm avoiding full reviews right now, but preliminary reports are saying it's awesome.

I watched Episode I last week. In some ways, it was not as bad as I remembered. In other ways, it was just as bad. I think Anakin's "Yippee!" is possibly the worst delivery of a bad line in the history of movies. On the up side, Ewan McGregor was good and Liam Neeson did his best, even when talking about midichlorians. I also didn't realize that Kiera Knightley actually doubles as Amidala--I thought she was an in-the-background Amidala assistant. The difference between the two is now quite obvious.

I also watched Episode II and I have some theories on Anakin's acting. I am 99% positive that George Lucas is behind his acting problems. After all, Luke and Leia were just as wooden in Return of the Jedi. I also think perhaps Lucas wanted him to be flat because he's a Jedi and is supposed to be so in control of himself. He best (acting) scene is when he kills the sand people, and he's not in control in that scene. That is my theory anyway.

In other news, poor Kingdom of Heaven. I guess the world just doesn't want historical epics anymore. Yet I am drawn to it nonetheless.

To sum up: Harry Potter is great. Episode III is getting great buzz and is hopefully great. Kingdom of Heaven--alas.

Put 'Em High

Well, it's that time again--summer time! That means I get to start bombarding all blog readers with endless movie news. Kingdom of Heaven was the #1 movie this weekend, with 20 million. People actually saw House of Wax, but only enough to get 11 million and second place. Even that paltry sum will probably lead to sequel, which is the bad news.

I hope everyone's managed to see the Narnia teaser. I saw it on a kind of fuzzy screen, but it looked awesome. I think the scene at the Stone Table could be really intense. A ridiculous nitpick--the wardrobe is shown covered with a sheet. As I recall, there was no sheet involved in the book. Pshaw!

I just watched the Goblet of Fire teaser tonight. I think they were taking up valuable GOF time with character reminiscing, but the second half showed some great stuff. I really like the sound of Dumbledore in this one, and I'm glad that they went with a more active Dumbledore after Richard Harris's death. I do think Fleur looks about thirteen years old but...who cares about Fleur besides Ron anyway? I'm still waiting for a look at Moody, but I guess he'll probably require some intense post-production work for his eye.

In other news, I saw Hotel Rwanda, which was very good. I also spent a lot of the last week with two hilarious little boys and had a blast. I had some ice cream tonight too. So, life is good. (And Episode III is less than two weeks away!)

Bless Harry Potter's Beautiful Hide

So, this is the kind of stuff that makes me ashamed of fellow Potter fans: crazy fangirls setting up hate sites for the Cho Chang actress. Yes, Cho is wretched but come on...let's try to be a little grown up about this.

In related news I am homeless for the time being, a parasite on surrounding relatives and living the suitcase lifestyle. It's the done-with-school perks I guess.

I guess I don't really have much to say. ABC is airing Chamber of Secrets on May 7th and they're going to intersperse it with scenes from the GOF trailer. Woo hoo! Even better, the trailer is out on the 13th, online and attached with Kicking and Screaming. It may not have Gerard Butler in it, but I'd be willing to see another soccer movie if it has some quality Harry Potter action. (I saw Game of Their Lives this weekend and it was pretty good.)

I read some old blogs this past week and it brought back all kinds of fan fiction memories. Some good, some...not so good. I had forgotten about the pregnant Harry fic. It's just wrong on so many levels.

So, in conclusion, the first week of May has two TV things I'm looking forward to: new Lost (finally!) and COS. The really amazing part is that that's just a week away. Wasn't it just Christmas?

Sunset Station

I just took the first final of the season. I guess it was okay, but I'll find out for sure on Monday.

This probably isn't surprising, but I'm getting kind of tired of these bugs crawling all over my window. They always seem to get inside my room and crawl where I do not want them. I'm also kind of tired of seeing them mate on my window too. I mean, don't they realize that everyone can see them? No sense of decency in bugs these days.

I was reading some of my old blogs the other day and I used to impart a lot more upcoming movie info. So, here's some taste of the old blog flavor:
-In a sign of the Apocalypse, writers are now working on a Baywatch movie.
-On May 7th, Chamber of Secrets is airing on TV along with the first clip of Goblet of Fire! (That makes up for the Baywatch news)
-Bruce Willis has that the only Die Hard that has any "merit" is the first one. My question is: why did he do the others?
-I won't deny that I want to see Kingdom of Heaven. I guess that counts as news.

In another toast to the old blogs, I have a fan fiction sound byte for the day. It's from a super sweetbees fic about Hermione and Draco getting together after Hermione becomes a skank. I mean gets a makeover.

"
Ginny and Hermione changed clothes and went to Hogsmeade. They went to "Sophania's wardrobe" and there were lots of trendy muggle clothes.

Ginny and Hermione exchanged excited looks and started choosing. Hermione chose tube tops, spaghetti strapped shirts, sleeveless shirts, mini skirts and shorts, plus a black evening gown for the end-of-year ball. She bought them all and started wearing one of the mini shorts and tube tops. Ginny bought mini dresses, low-cut jeans and sleeveless shirts. She also started wearing them too.

They held large shopping bags and walked to the "Shoes for girls like me" shop. They each chose three pairs of shoes. Hermione bought high heel boots , high heel slippers and sneakers. Ginny bought boots, slippers. Hermione started to put on the high heel slippers, Ginny also.

After that, one thing was left. Their hair. They went to "The Girls Hair Salon". Hermione straightened her hair and dyed it blond and streaks of black and brown. Ginny dyed her hair light brown and trimmed an inch. They walked out and people started looking at them, trying to figure out who they were."

I don't even know where to start about that.

Blog to Infinity

I was planning to be the first back on the blog bandwagon and I got outfoxed.

I had some chow mein tonight. It was the best chow mein I have had in the history of my entire existence and I liked it so much I took two hours to eat it. I followed it up with the best water ever and threw in some best ever Cheetos too. The memory of that chow mein will keep me going. Mmm.

I watched Ninja Turtles this morning, as usual. Bishop got impaled on a hook, which was pretty rad. But somehow he got off and escaped again. Clearly the man has some kind of superhuman getting-off-the-hook abilities. My strange fascination called W.I.T.C.H. has disappeared so I didn't get my Saturday morning anime fix, alas.

So I caught some I Want a Famous Face tonight about a girl who "always had a passion for acting." I don't know what kind of movies she wants to be in though since she's planning to break into the biz through Playboy. That's not a passion for acting that's a passion for getting attention. So, this led me to a conclusion. 95% of new actresses don't want to be actresses, they just want to be celebrities. So now more than ever, the future of serious film lies in Bollywood.

Sad news. I checked out Ebay to scope out the elusive and awesome Unleashed Boba Fetts. Apparently he is the Harley Quinn of the Unleashed world because the man is going for $100. So far my solution is to say to the world: if you ever corner the elusive Boba Fett in a store, buy him. I will not only pay you back but will also give you a sticker.

I think I need more best ever water and possibly some crazy fun Star Wars pop-tarts.

I Want to Break Free

Well, since everyone seems to have abandoned the blogging tradition I guess I will carry the torch until Reimburser makes it popular again.

Is it weird to get a word stuck in your head? I have "minorly" in my head, except with a Boston accent. Minahly.

So, I saw some good flicks this weekend. I saw...something. I watched Turtles on Saturday as usual, though it didn't have that great emotional punch of last week. Then I watched some show on ABC called W.i.t.c.h., and, despite its oh-so-popular Saturday morning Anime-ness, it entrances me. Maybe because it looks so much better than Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh. Back to movies, I got Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead and I watched some memorable scenes from that. Then I saw Finding Neverland today, and it was such a fantastically beautiful movie (and it made me really like Kate Winslet again).

In other news, I have nothing to say. Hmmm. Guess that means it's time for fan fiction!

Supa Fly

I'm kind of on a Harry Potter high right now. Just a warning.

So, I just saw this little promotional poster for GOF today. I think it's funny that they put Hermione in the middle. And that they aren't even pretending anymore that she's not supposed to be pretty. They also used a wretched picture of Ron, and my light just burned out. Hmm. Another interesting fact: it listed Patrick Doyle (Sense and Sensibility) as the composer. I heard that a while ago, but it was just a rumor then. So, John Williams is taking a break, though I guess Patrick Doyle is working around the established Lumos! theme. I'm excited about this because I like Patrick Doyle. I had an awesome thought though: Tim Burton+Harry Potter=one crazy movie

I feel like Dr. Finklestein when he says "Ohhhh my head" except I want to say "Ohhh my stomach."

...hmm. So I found out boa constrictors can kill alligators. I also found out that pretty much the only thing boas don't digest is teeth. Seriously, the animal kingdom has the most random trivia in it.

OK, so my light came back on. I guess it's one of those new-fangled bulbs that turns off and recharges or something.

Your Mom Goes to College.

So I was watching tv the other day, and I have to announce that the popular sitcom I was watching contained a horrible wrong fact. NO, Caravaggio was NOT part of the Renaissance! He wasn't even close--stylistically or chronologically! DON'T SAY THAT HE WAS. Who did that research and were they fired afterwards?

I saw Series of Unfortunate Events again last night. That's such a great movie. HOW did The Aviator beat it for costumes at the Oscars? Yes, I'm sure The Aviator had great, historical costumes. But SOUE had INVENTIVE costumes! Inventiveeeeee! Someone PLEASE award them for their inventiveness. I also have to say that Jim Carrey's voice as Uncle Monty's assistant is great.

Well, I hope everyone's seen the Half-Blood Prince book covers. Who else thinks that Dumbledore is going to be a lot more active in this one? For you unfortunate souls, here is the American cover. And because I am generous: here is the UK kids cover and here is the UK adults cover. And the UK adults cover? Ummm, yeah, everyone heard me say last summer that I think Snape is the H-BP right? Just so we're all clear on that.

I heard an interesting theory on Harry the other day. Try this on for kicks: Lily is a descendant of Slytherin--hence, the green eyes that are so important. JKR said something big about Lily would be revealed in #6--maybe this is it? Hmm. And I still say Cho isn't Cho. Just so we're all clear on that.

Stick a Fork in Me

I'm done. Can we skip to Friday please? I would like to bypass everything this week except for Lost, and I can tape that and watch it on Friday. Doesn't anyone know a good cloner? Possibly one that uses age acceleration. As a measure of how much this day sucks, I couldn't spell "acceleration" for about fifteen minutes, and was seriously thinking "exceleration" must be right.

So, the Oscars. How unsatisfying and boring were they? I mean, Series of Unfortunate Events goes home without the best costume design award? Did the voters see the movie? Fie on you, Academy.

In related news, I would like one of my teachers to burnnnnnnn. Burnnnnnnnn!

*sigh* So, there's been a lot of debate about movie recommendations lately. All I have to say is, if a movie didn't appeal initially, it's hard to take anyone's recommendation on it. But hey, I saw some Open Water and probably some other stuff. Didn't I? I saw Treasure Planet anyway.
I'm watching Prisoner of Azkaban on Friday. I cling to this thought. Does anyone else get misty-eyed when he flies Buckbeak the first time? Maybe that's just me. Expecto Patronum!

Cookie and Smitty

This weekend was so super sweetbees. I hope everyone had such a sweetbees weekend as me. I hope to repeat it ASAP.

Well, I'm a respectable member of society now, because I own a game console. Yes, friends, there is a happy little Gamecube sitting in my room right now. Unfortunately I haven't even got a chance to hook it up yet because of homework. But tomorrow night spells freedom (after Lost of course) and then the fun will begin! While I wrote my prospectus I kept smelling one of the controllers. It smells like brand new plastic. Mmm.

iPods are the new cell phones.

In other news, Reimburser's disappearance continues. Maybe he got sucked into a computer.

Chocolate Frogs

In the Chamber of Secrets video game, chocolate frogs are the size of house cats. I don't think I would want to eat one of those.

No tax return yet, alas. I must continue to have a parasitical relationship with other people's consoles. But one day... The parasite will become the parasite host--like a dog's ear I will become.

We talked about insect chirpings in class today. It just made me think about the insect room of the museum in AC. I like that room, especially when it has ladybugs and butterflies.

So I've heard some questions about filming Open Water with sharks and things. I read an interview with the large cast once and, apparently, those sharks are real and exactly where they appear to be. I assume they were well-fed beforehand. Or possibly genetically altered, because that is all the rage these days.

PS: My guess for best picture is The Aviator. Just so we're all clear on that.

Catapults!

Ah, Valentine's Day here again. The day of dates and complaints from people without them. Bliss.

After a marathon of reading, I finished The Two Towers yesterday. In celebration of this I played Return of the King and got my trashed kicked at Pelennor. But I also played Diablo and got my sorceress up to 20, a landmark in my long colorful Diablo history. That game is so sweetbees. I want to play it some more, but, alas, it must wait for the weekend.

I saw another movie this weekend that further confirmed my theory that vampire movies suck, pun intended. Dracula 2000. I love it when movies put a new twist on the vampire movie formula of vampire orgies and cat-and-mouse games with moronic humans. Wait. So far, the only vampire movies I can think of that did not include these elements are Dracula: Dead and Loving It and Underworld. (YES, I know Underworld got its costumes from The Matrix. I am talking about the vampire movie genre here.) At least Van Helsing portrayed all the vampire campiness included in the original novel. I think the best part of Dracula 2000 was the commercials they showed for Gladiator (Romans! Romansssss!).

In Harry Potter news, I hope everyone has seen the latest picture with the golden egg. I am currently wiggling in anticipation and horrible dread for the graveyard scene in GOF. XPose magazine listed the top 13 HP moments. Number one was...the first owl post? Huh? What about Lockhart taking the bones out of Harry's arm? Classic!

In other news, I have peanut butter and chocolate creme oreos, and I pity all those without them.

Tuesday, February 08, 2005

Loverly Spring

Actually, it's not like spring at all, judging by how I was cold today.

I just watched the superbowl spot for Batman Begins and it looks super sweetbees. The only two things I'm not to sure about are Michael Caine and Katie Holmes. I'm willing to go with Katie Holmes, if for no other reason than that I don't think she'll have a great deal of screen time. I don't know what my problem is with Michael Caine--maybe because I see him and picture him "gliding" in Miss Congeniality.

Did you know elephants only digest about 40% of their food? Do you know I ate too much hamburger-less helper?

Here's a treat for all you AVP fans: there's been talk about a new Predator sequel, cleverly disguised by the term "restart." Not a sequel! Not a prequel! A restart. The best part is that it has to do with Schwazzengerah's son from the original. Or something. *sniff sniff* I smell a sequel. And hamburger helper.

I saw one of the funniest things ever today on a show called "My Super Sweet Sixteen" on MTV. This show involves whiney rich kids planning birthday parties that rival most people's weddings ("rivals" here means "beats"). A much put-upon 15 year old went to Paris to pick out her dress--very trying because her mom kept "killing everything." Then she picked out her birthday car (a Range Rover) but found out it was used--"Eww." But the best part? Some pre-birthday partying resulted in (egads!) not getting the car on her birthday. So she started bawling in this upscale restaurant, since her parents "totally killed" her birthday. If you ever get the chance to see this, I highly recommend you do.

Tiger Uppercut!

Let me just state for the record that Collective Soul is one of the best things since evenly sliced bread. (After all, if bread is unevenly cut what good is it? No better than crumbly bread, I tell you!)

I am now reading The Two Towers. It's quite exciting, except I'm only on the second chapter, and I don't I think I'll get to read anymore more until Thursday night at least. *Sigh* Still, it's fantasmic anyway. In other fantasmic news, an assignment I thought was due tomorrow is due a week from tomorrow. I have to measure dinosaurs bones and then figure out the point of doing it.

In movie news, Transporter 3 is already in the works, along with Resident Evil: Hungry Mummies.

Hah, fooled you!

A Winner is You!

So, Oscar noms. Not too much unexpected there. I'm happy Lemony Snicket got a good handful, I hope they win at least two. There were definitely some snubs, which vexes me greatly. I'm hoping Johnny Depp wins, just to see the look on Chris Rock's face, and, you know, because he deserves it.

JK Rowling had her baby this weekend--hurray for the perpetuation of the race of Rowling.

I finished Timeline today, a book that is so much better than the movie it spawned. (Though it's still clunky and one of the most textbook sounding of his books) Still, the fact that Marek decides to stay in the 14th century really irritates me. It was a little more plausible in the book, but still...he was so smart the rest of the book and then he made a dunderheaded move like that.

Speaking of good movies, I saw that film classic called Catwoman this weekend. I mean, how often does a movie with a bad script/acting/costumes/music/cinematography/action sequences/CGI all in one package come along? Not since The Musketeer, surely.

There has been a lot of discussion lately about being addicted to one show or the watching many shows and being addicted to none of them. Having experienced both methods, I find that, in the end, it's better to get into 1-2 shows and in general ignore the rest. That way, you have something regular and planned to look forward to each week.

As for me, it's time to eat and watch whatever's on tv.

Slip Slidin' Away

So about Lost. Here is what I think: Walt is a strange kid. Here is what else I think: there is something about that dog and that polar bear. Possibly the dog and the polar bear (polar bear #2) are the same. Also, what ever happened to the first polar bear? Yes, it's dead, but is its carcass still rotting in the jungle? Maybe that's where the dog went...

I have some thoughts on Paul Walker in Timeline. First, how did Paul Walker manage to sneak his shoes from 2 Fast 2 Furious onto the Timeline set? Seriously, they're the same shoes. Does he provide his own wardrobe? Second, why is his hair so greasy and badly highlighted? Third, how many ways does that movie suck? Many, many ways, but I'll forgive Gerard Butler, since he wears good pants. *cough*

So I just read this gossip blurb that Tobey Maguire dropped out of presenting at the Golden Globes because of his weight problem. Seabiscuit 2? I ask myself. No... apparently he was advised to not show his face until he loses weight he put on. This amuses me.

Another thing that amuses me is tigers playing eenie meenie miney moe. And CGI polar bears.

Frodey

Greetings, fellow time travellers. We meet again.

I saw the movie Troy last week. While trailers would have you believe otherwise, this movie is about a group of dunderheads with no clear central character. Positively speaking, Eric Bana is an excellent Hector and has better pecs than Achilles "King Dunderhead" Pitt. Paris is a moron and Orlando's hair is too poofy to be proper eye candy. Alas. On the up side, I was happy Andromache didn't die so that some kind of Hector essence would live on. In conclusion, if you want to see Troy, just read it in 15 Minutes, because that is better.

I saw The Village this weekend, which is somewhat better the second time. The music is fantabulous. Joaquin Phoenix is always good, but Bryce Dallas Howard is defintely the high point in the movie.

In related news, as I am currently infected with Gerard Butler-itis, I put myself through Tomb Raider 2 today also. It's always encouraging to see a movie that takes advantage of every second of film to do an action sequence. It also showcased every mode of transportation known to man, including shark and flying squirrel suits. On the up side, there was a some nice scenery (and here I refer to the on location kind, not just the Gerard Butler kind).

So in some non-movie news... Hmm. I keep seeing the Kingdom of Heaven trailer and it is growing on me. I think I have been sucked in by the dramatic female soloist music. The only thing that trailer is missing is Djimon Honsou (who, somehow, got roped into Tomb Raider)--it's even got the Elysium Wheat going on.

Good news for people who care: Hot Topic is carrying the Oliver Wood t-shirt again. Hurrah for minor characters with endearing accents and Quidditch fever!

More good news for people who care: Monday=holiday! Dancing in the streets!

Intellectual Denial

Ah, the second week of school. Normally, homework would be going by now. I actually do have plenty of reading that I have yet to even start. Why is this? Some strange kind of denial and unwillingness to do homework. While this is causing some minor guilt, it's obviously not changing my behavior. So I'll just continue to take long naps and look at random internet sites. After all, there's always tomorrow.

So. Yesterday was a landmark. I bought beef. Raw beef. This is the first time I have bought any kind of raw meat. Naturally, some confusion on cooking ensued but I successfully made myself some Hamburger Helper, complete with hamburger. This is also a landmark as the second time I've made such "food." Sometimes food from a box is the best kind of food.

I just found out that J.K. Rowling's favorite painter is Caravaggio. Ah, the woman has fine taste.

So today in Medieval art we talked about the cult of saints. To make a long story short, it centers around this obsession of relics. This got me to thinking that even now, eons later, not only does this cult still exist (less feverish though) but there's also a cult of celebrity. How else do you explain someone playing X amount of money for a grilled cheese sandwich that supposedly has Mary's face on it? Or paying (way) too much money for a cup of water Elvis drank out of (shouldn't this water be evaporated by now? Was it cryogenically frozen?)? Anyone seen the show Totally Obsessed? I rest my case.

I think it's time for me to continue not doing homework and read some more Fellowship. Over and out.

Wretched Wretchedness

Not to be negative or anything, but one thing I hate beyond all comprehension is waking up in the morning when I am not ready to wake up. Waking up prematurely is bad enough, but when Monday is part of the mix, as well as early morning winter darkness, it becomes the most hated event of my day. If there is anything worse than this, it is the sound of an alarm clock--such an obnoxious sound I would like to take a sledge hammer to it. Grrrrr.

In other news, I also dislike:
  • People chewing with their mouths open (except in the case of stuffed noses, of course)
  • People smacking gum with their mouths open
  • The people's choices in the People's Choice Awards. Favorite female action star: Angelina Jolie. Please.
  • That the movie industry doesn't consult me and, thus, makes some bad decisions about good movies.
  • Other things that will come to me as they happen.

Blarg I'm so bored. I don't have class for another 40 minutes, and there's nothing to do online. What is the remedy, I ask you? Some dude next to me is looking at a diagram of an energy well. So I guess it could be worse.

Tuesday, January 04, 2005

And Then the Orange Said...

So I'm back where I started. At school. Which is where I started. *sigh* I'm bored already and I haven't even been to class yet. And tomorrow it's back to work--arghhhhh. People shouldn't be allowed to make messes, that's what I think.

I finished The Hobbit yesterday and it was pretty good. Nice little story. Makes me dislike dwarves more, which probably wasn't the intention. Bard was pretty cool though. Have I mentioned that Beleg (of Turin's story) is one of the coolest elves ever? Fabulous.

Lost is on tomorrow and it's new! Hurray! Bright spot in the week. So I totally feel like watching some sort of bad movie. I watched Van Helsing yet again over break. Something in that movie mesmerizes me and makes me want to watch it over and over again. I also watched Timeline. See, that movie is also bad in many respects but...not so much with the mesmerizing.

So. In other news. I can't wait to do my taxes. I'm waiting impatiently for my W2, so I can send them in and get some money back. I'm hoping to put it towards the LOTR posters I had planned for the last return. And maybe a Gamecube is in my future. That could be exciting. I played some Mario Kart recently--that is a fun game.

So, here is what I see in my future. A big bowl of Velveeta. Some comic books. Possibly some slipper socks. Time to get to work.

Monkey Sea

Well, it's Wednesday again. Lost is on, airing the two episodes I missed the first time around. That's exciting. Also exciting: I finally finished Unfinished Tales completely for the first time. Great stuff in there. I think Turin's story is my favorite out of all the First Age tales. It's so sad for him though.

I have a few thoughts on Prisoner of Azkaban, after watching it this past week. The director, Alfonso Cuaron or somesuch, said on the DVD that he took the story and the central theme and then stripped off anything that didn't add to that theme (the theme being the one about Harry and death etc.). I think in some ways this was an excellent idea that made the book-to-movie transition much smoother. But I also think it cost some characters some very important developments of their own. For instance, it left out Ron's enthusiasm at being the topic of conversation after Sirius's attack. This was really the first time Ron's occasional envy of Harry showed up, before it shows itself more clearly in GOF. Leaving out Hermione's too-many-classes stress doesn't show that she finds her academic limits. And, of course, the abridged Shrieking Shack scene (I go along with 90% of the changes but I still maintain that that scene should be longer) leaves out all of Lupin's development, as well as some for James (and, by extension, Harry). So, in short, it's a good idea that maybe was taken too far in regards to some characters. (And of course I'm not talking about adding lots of scenes, just a small handful of short moments)

That concludes today's Harry Potter thoughts. Oh, and that I rock at the trivia game.

Next in today's business: It's almost 2005. Halfway to 2010! Let us enjoy these single digit years while we can.

I saw the Kingdom of Heaven trailer yesterday. I imagine Ridley Scott had a checklist with him while making this movie. "Let's see...drifting snow, check. Desert scenes, check. Female soloist, check. Battles in said drifting snow, check. Noble speeches by combat leaders, check. Oscar nominations...to be checked."

Ah! Just what the world needed: another Pride and Prejudice remake.

Swinging Like a Star

Well, it's that time again! Christmas time--the time of nogs and nights before. Hurrah!

It's also that other time again--time to get really excited for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince--in stores July 16th! I'm so excited about this I could eat a whole hippo. Seriously, folks, this is going to be so sweetbees.

In other sweetbees news, the first two official pictures from GOF surfaced the same day. In one, Ron sports his increasinly unattractive haircut and very unpleasant "Ron" facial expression. Of course, this was spurred by his dress robes which, if I were wearing them, would probably create the same expression on my face. I submit this theory: teaser in March. Trailer in late summer. I am eagerly anticipating the first look at Mad-Eye Moody. After seeing SOUE, I think Billy Connelly (Uncle Monty himself) would have been a great Moody, but I'm willing to accept What's His Face.

Speaking of SOUE, I saw it this past weekend and it was fabulous. Of course, it rearranged and added and left out a good deal of unfortunate (and fortunate) events. Still, nothing was done that would make me complain. Well, except for not included Brett Helquist in the design of things. Jim Carrey--not overwhelming and a better-than-expected Count Olaf. The kids were great, the supporting cast (featuring several people from A Mighty Wind, incidentally) was good. If I really can't have Lord of the Rings on the 17th, I will take a SOUE movie anytime.

Speaking of LOTR, I finally watched it, and it was fantabulous. It was already but it was good again. I have been absorbing the extra info on the appendices and here is some random information:
1) For the Mouth of Sauron, they digitally increased his mouth size 200%.
2) Billy Boyd wrote the music for the song he sings at Minas Tirith.
3) Liv Tyler sings the song played during the House of Healing scene.
4) The cascading skulls are walnuts and coconuts.
5) WOW a lot of work went into this movie!

Ah, sweet bliss of relaxation. I've been reading--recreational reading!--Unfinished Tales. I'm currently wading through Turin's tale--so sad and so good.

Well, kids, I think it's time to say Happy Christmas and get back to decompressing. Or peeling wallpaper. Whatever you prefer.

Crimanitly Trigger

I'ver received some harsh accusations against my lack of blogging lately. As some justification for my actions (or lack thereof) let me just say I wrote a whole blog last night and blogger failed to produce it. It included insightful information, like the funniness of the Ralph/Bart play date Simpsons episode. "The pointy kitty took it!"

I bought two fantastic Christmas presents today. Guaranteed to impress and amaze. Possibly stupefy.

*drumroll* I bought Extended ROTK last night. Hurrah! I haven't watched it yet, but I should be done packing soon... The excitement is building! Always building! It's such a pretty blue case too. I saw the extra special edition with Minas Tirith. I think more than Minas Tirith I want the Howard Shore DVD. Minas Tirith looked ultra sweetbees, but, just to make myself feel better, I focus on how it's a little dark. Not as white as it should be! I cling to this thought. And the thought that ebay will have them for years to come. *Sigh*

I watched Bourne Supremacy the other day. Such a sweetbees movie.

Well, friends, I think the time has come. Packing must be done. And possibly some eating...and hopefully some RoTK-ing. On the second day, look to my blog.

Get Lost!

I know at least one person besides myself watched Lost tonight. And ahhhhhh that was so stressful. Watching that scene (you know what scene!) was like watching Merry die or something. It was horrible. I wasn't sure if Jack was completely out of it for a while, but I'm glad he came through in the end. It was definitely a good episode tonight. And Sawyer didn't even stick Sayid with toothpicks or anything--what a dandy fellow he is. As to Charlie not seeing or hearing or remembering anything... well. That reminds me of an earlier episode when Locke went out to hunt boars. You know he saw something, and yet he professed not to. I think in Charlie's case it's either 1) he's quiet for the same reason Locke is (whatever that is) or 2) he really doesn't remember and he's feeling bad about that b/c he wants to help find Claire. This brings me back to last week. Did that psychic see anything past the plane crash? If so, I'm sure he wouldn't send her there only to have her killed by Crazy Ethan. (Just for the record, I think Ethan's name is Lance) Anyway, I'm kind of upset that it's not new next week. What am I going to do with my Wednesday night? Oh yes. Study like mad.

So, in other news. Last day of classes tomorrow. Wasn't it the first day only yesterday? Where did the time go? I hope next semester goes just as quickly, and I hope it's just as good. I have discovered interests I never thought possible-- physical science and the Maya. Of all things.

I'm supposed to be studying for a non-final test tomorrow. So what am I doing here? Putting it off. Oh yes. And wishing someone would come online and download a song for me. Grrs.
Return of the King is out next Tuesday! It's exciting, but it's also the end, which is depressing. And I have no LOTR to see this Christmas. At least Series of Unfortunate Events will be out. I think the Wide Window hurricane will be pretty good, and I like the look of Billy Connelly's Uncle Monty.

I had a dream the other night that there was a new show out with Deperate Housewives, starring Stacy London. (The Stacy London of What Not to Wear fame) In my dream, I decided it was the best new show, second to Lost. She played a newly released prison inmate who accidentally killed two of her adopted children and their dog (it was supposed to be a prank on her husband). That was after she got out of jail--I don't know what she was in for. In a word: quality.

I'll be true...enough.

The Battle is Won

I'm getting a severe hankering for Return of the King. I'm going to hold off until the extended edition, if I possibly can. Which I can. Because I rock.

So, much happiness today! My defunct-since-August CD Player is miraculously working tonight! I'm very excited, as this means that now computer games and music can coincide. Speaking of computer games, I want to play some Diablo. Hmmm.

More happiness: because my professor has "no life", he graded all our Behemoths in one day. Yes, friends, I have conquered--95%! Victory is mine. My mental comments to him since Bad Test Day--"You suuuuuuuuck."--have been instantly changed "You are most favorite person." So it worked out good for him too.

The Batman Begins teaser poster is out. It's cool--not too flashy. No neon colors. No overemphasis on anatomy. Actually, I'm not sure about that last part because it's just a silhouette. Anyway, it's a nice poster.

Let's see. What else. Oh yes. So I could have watched Hellboy tonight. But I didn't. In doing so I avoided many comments like "He's going to dieeeee." and "What's going on?" Normally I love comments like that but there can be too much of a good thing.

Nox.

Itchy Ears

My ear itches. Inside. Where I cannot follow.

Who watched Lost? Dude, that whole "He wasn't on the plane!" thing freaked me out for a minute because I thought they weren't going to give the culprit away until next week. Phew. Seriously though, who is this dude? And freaky freakiness with Locke's eyes in that dream. Eesh. I can't wait for next week. Oh, question of the day-- did the psychic get Claire on the plane so that she would have to raise the baby or did he see her dying on the island and he wanted them both to die? My guess is that he wanted her to raise the baby, but I don't really see how this kid could be significant until it's like a teenager. And, I'm sorry, I don't think Lost is going to be on in 13 years. I mean, they could pull a soap switch and replace the baby with an older kid in about a year... cause, you know...that happens. Obviously Abrams has something in mind here.

Gary Oldman (as Sirius Black) was nominated for a People's Choice award for "Best Villain." I guess the people didn't realize that he's not a villain. I always thought that was the real qualifying trait for that category. My bad.

I think my phlegm-filled head is beginning to empty. That's the good news of the day. My ear still itches though.

And just a treat for y'all, I've got some good links here. Very educational.
