This Love: It's New

So several months ago the Husband and I decided that after the wedding we would start a Disney marathon in which we would watch all the animated movies in order, approximately one per day. We started it off last week and last night we arrived at Dumbo. I think the last time I saw any part of this movie was when I was about 14 and it was Youth Conference. The John Bytheway video didn't work so why not show a bit of Dumbo for restless teenagers, hm? Apparently that was my only chance to get acquainted with J. Bytheway because I still have no idea what he looks or sounds like.

Anyway, Dumbo.

So we start the movie last night. And then Dumbo appeared. And my brain exploded into rainbows and butterflies. Just look:

He. Is. So. Cute. I can't even stand it. I wish I could find more screencaps from when he is even cuter, but that picture is enough to make me wring my hands. Seriously, I have never really cared about this movie, and now I am watching it again as I type this. If we weren't going out of town I would probably watch it again tomorrow (this is not normal behavior for me, just for the record).

So yes, Dumbo. So cute. Brain. Explodes. I wish I could find the clip of him having a bath where he makes the cutest squeaking noises ever in the world, but this is only good clip I found. It's still plenty cute.

  1. You guys definitely traded up when you switched away from J. Bytheway. I took his Book of Mormon class and it was surprisigly boring.

You truly did flail every time he appeared on screen, it was in some ways more amusing than the actual film itself. I think the Baby Mine clip is a perfect representation for your blog.

Yay, we should be done with all these glorious films in plenty of time for the Princess and the Frog!

  2. Oh no, I can't watch that video. I shall bawl all day. Seriously. Best few minutes of Disney history right there.

  3. It's been years since I watched Dumbo. Thanks for the reminder, I think Julia will LOVE it. (Plus, that picture of Dumbo reminds me of my little Gabe.)

  4. That's the part when you start crying and can't stop. I can't watch it.

  5. That's a great idea - to watch them in order. I've never done that, but I think Trev and I should try it.
Snow White has always been, and always will be my favorite.

Dumbo is cute. But not as cute as my babies. Oh wait, nothing is :)!

  6. Dumbo creeps me out. The best parts of that movie are of course the crows at the end ("never seen an elephant fly"), and the bit where he gets drunk and sees evil marching elephants singing their awesome song. If you count Pixar as part of Disney, the opening bit of Up (and also the rest of the whole movie) is the best of Disney history.

Oh, John Bytheway is alright, but overrated and can sometimes be annoying. However, there is a set of talks by John L. Lund called "For All Eternity" on five CDs that is in my opinion required listening for all married couples. It has helped Kate and me immensely, and I can't recommend it enough.

  7. Dumbo IS cute. I can't believe you didn't like him before. And I agree with Cami. Baby Mine is one of the best Disney songs/scenes ever!

  8. I remember seeing this as a child, in the 1950's (since it was released in 1941, it must have been one of Disney's periodic re-releases). I cried my eyes out when they took him away from his mommy. oh, the injustice. I mean, she was just protecting her little one. The only Disney title character who never speaks. Thanks for the memories.

  10. ....I had better not comment on Dumbo, but that picture is seriously cute.

OK I will. Dumbo terrified me as a kid, specifically the Elephants on Parade part, and I can't think about it without getting a fever headache. So I'll just look at that cute picture.
