Wish me luck...

In an effort to 1) read a YA book 2) explore the vampire fiction world beyond Twilight 3) read something current 4) read something easy 5) read something I think will be awesomely bad I am about to start reading Vampire Academy. Vladimir's Academy, to be precise. It's located deep in the heart of the dark woods in...Montana. And these are the first few sentences:

"I felt her fear before I heard her screams.
"Her nightmare pulsed into me, shaking me out of my own dream, which had had something to with a beach and some hot guy rubbing suntan oil on me."

Why do I do this to myself?!

  2. Hmmm.... that is slightly worse than the first few sentences of Twilight.

    Good luck!

  3. You do it to give us something to giggle about once everyone gets home. Oh, wait, like we need another reason.

  4. Why do I feel like this is how Twilight might have started if Stephenie Meyer wasn't Mormon?

Although, you didn't mention the best part! With a Scottish mother and a Turquoise father (or was he Turkish?!) her skin is the color of the inside of an almond! :)

Sounds not too different from Stephenie Meyers to me, frankly :)

  6. Hello, this is Drew's sister Cami. I need you to please read Dracula by Bram Stoker because it is a classic, and you MUST if you're getting into vampire lit. Though I must warn you, it will ruin them all for you with its awesomeness.

Drew says you've probably already read it. If you are a serious reader, come join my online book group. That is all.

  7. Cami: Drew probably told you this already, but I have read Dracula! I read it several years ago and was unimpressed. BUT I think I was expecting a masterpiece of Gothic writing, full of darkness and drama. And...it wasn't quite. I think I would enjoy it more if I read it again with adjusted expectations.

And I am a serious reader by profession (or soon-to-be profession anyway) so do tell me more about your book group!
